Well, Hitchcock could be eclectic in this way.  Notably, SECRET AGENT (1936)
took Somerset Maugham's short story "The Hairless Mexican"  (which had been
adapted into an unpublished play, 'Ashenden', by film critic Campbell Dixon) and
combined it with the same author's short story "The Traitor".
