The only Arkadin I know well is the version released on
laserdisc by Criterion. It's a messy film, but full of
brilliant material. The opening sequences foreshadow
Antonioni and the material with Zouk is (I think) a more
imaginative representation of post-war Europe than "The
Third Man." As an allegory of the residue of post-war
fascism, it has no competition.
