The only Arkadin I know well is the version released on laserdisc by Criterion. It's a messy film, but full of brilliant material. The opening sequences foreshadow Antonioni and the material with Zouk is (I think) a more imaginative representation of post-war Europe than "The Third Man." As an allegory of the residue of post-war fascism, it has no competition. ---------------------- Robert Kolker Department of English University of Maryland College Park, MD 20742 [log in to unmask] http://otal.umd.edu/~rkolker ---- Screen-L is sponsored by the Telecommunication & Film Dept., the University of Alabama: http://www.tcf.ua.edu
