The fact that there was a novelization is an interesting fact unto
itself. David Wheeler, in his book NO, BUT I SAW THE MOVIE, says that
this is "one of the very few instances in which a short story adapted
into film spawned, in essence, a 'novelization' that later became a
major work of modern fiction."
