*Assistant Professor of Film & Video*
The University of the Arts seeks an Assistant Professor for the Film &
Video program in the School of Film in the College of Art, Media and Design
for a multi-year/non-tenure track faculty position. Salary and rank are
commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will be able to teach a wide range of subjects
from beginning to advanced levels, and will have a working knowledge of
narrative, documentary, and experimental approaches. Preference will be
given to candidates whose practice expands cinema’s boundaries and
demonstrates innovation in an ever-changing discipline. A strong record of
professional achievement, a comprehensive grasp of the history of film and
video production, a familiarity with the concepts undergirding contemporary
practice, and an interest in multidisciplinary projects and curriculum are
required.
The fulltime teaching load is 18 credits, typically six courses per year
(3/3). Assistant Professors begin with a 3-year renewable contract. In
addition to teaching, fulltime faculty are expected to maintain a
professional art practice; serve on university committees; advise students;
participate in curriculum development and other departmental activities.
The search committee will consider the candidate’s potential to work
towards a leadership role in both the program and the university.
In recognition of the University’s Academic and Strategic Plans and the
recommendations that support a commitment to the spirit of experimentation
and invention in the education of young artists and designers, the new
Assistant Professor will be expected to instruct within the BFA program
with artistic and academic innovation. The hallmarks of the Academic and
Strategic Plans include greater opportunity for collaborative learning and
encouragement of our faculty and students to question the conventions and
boundaries that underpin disciplinary traditions.
The combined enrollment for the College of Art, Media and Design is
approximately 1200 students. Currently, the School of Film has 126
students. Students in the Film Program use the program’s full range of
media tools and techniques to create their own artistic vision. The
curriculum is designed to encourage students to be creative and inventive
while they develop a solid technical competency serving them well in both
professional and fine art cinematic practices.
