*Assistant Professor of Film & Video* The University of the Arts seeks an Assistant Professor for the Film & Video program in the School of Film in the College of Art, Media and Design for a multi-year/non-tenure track faculty position. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be able to teach a wide range of subjects from beginning to advanced levels, and will have a working knowledge of narrative, documentary, and experimental approaches. Preference will be given to candidates whose practice expands cinema’s boundaries and demonstrates innovation in an ever-changing discipline. A strong record of professional achievement, a comprehensive grasp of the history of film and video production, a familiarity with the concepts undergirding contemporary practice, and an interest in multidisciplinary projects and curriculum are required. The fulltime teaching load is 18 credits, typically six courses per year (3/3). Assistant Professors begin with a 3-year renewable contract. In addition to teaching, fulltime faculty are expected to maintain a professional art practice; serve on university committees; advise students; participate in curriculum development and other departmental activities. The search committee will consider the candidate’s potential to work towards a leadership role in both the program and the university. In recognition of the University’s Academic and Strategic Plans and the recommendations that support a commitment to the spirit of experimentation and invention in the education of young artists and designers, the new Assistant Professor will be expected to instruct within the BFA program with artistic and academic innovation. The hallmarks of the Academic and Strategic Plans include greater opportunity for collaborative learning and encouragement of our faculty and students to question the conventions and boundaries that underpin disciplinary traditions. The combined enrollment for the College of Art, Media and Design is approximately 1200 students. Currently, the School of Film has 126 students. Students in the Film Program use the program’s full range of media tools and techniques to create their own artistic vision. The curriculum is designed to encourage students to be creative and inventive while they develop a solid technical competency serving them well in both professional and fine art cinematic practices.
