In response to the query about scenes showing story pitching:
 
In the original A STAR IS BORN (1937), there's a brief exchange at a party
about a kid turning and singing to his mother, with the response:
"Sounds great!  But where do we find a 6-month old kid who can sing?"
 
There are at least a couple of Warner Bros. cartoons that have Daffy and
or Porky trying to sell ideas to Leon Schlesinger or Jack Warner.
 
In HOLD BACK THE DAWN (1941), Charles Boyer tells his character's story to
 the film's director, Mitchell Leisen.
 
SINGIN' IN THE RAIN features a couple of scenes with Kelly and O'Connor trying
to save the horrible the talkie they've made, leading up to the setpiece
"Broadway Melody" sequence.
