Volume 1 of Richard Able's Fernch Film Theory and Criticism 1907-1931 is full
of essays that address the analysis of "movement, tempo and rhythm in...
film style?"
E.G. Leon Moussininac's "On Cinematographic Rhythm" pp280-282. These
questions were major themes for french theorists of the 10s and 20s, though
they are not always named in the titles of their essays, so poke around in
the
book.
