One film worth consideration for its ending is the French Lieutenant's
Woman. The book by John Fowles had a postmodernist theme of the
past-in-present. The film creates an ending of its own by showing the
modern-day relationship of the actors (Meryll Streep and Jeremy Irons)
after the story of the Victorian past is over. The script, by Harold
Pinter, was considered by some an ingenious solution to the problems of
adaptation and by others an unnecessary addition.
