The Minnesota Independent Film Fund
The Minnesota Independent Film Fund (MIFF) is an innovative program
created by the Minnesota Film Board, and administered by the
Independent Feature Project/North with funds provided by Northwest
Airlines and the McKnight Foundation to establish a feature film
development fund in Minnesota. Specifically, MIFF is an investment
in the creative talent of Mnnesota filmmakers and provides a unique
opportunity ot stimulate production of high quality independent
feature films. In the fourth year of the program, through the
generous support of a community of partnering organizations and
individual 'angels', MIFF has demonstrated a commitment to assisting
projects through to completion.
Each year, the Minnesota Independent Film Fund will distribute awards
totaling $75,000 worth of development money and mentorship support to
Minnesota makers of dramatic feature films. Mentorship support is
available through the MIFF Steering Committee of national experts and
advisors in the film industry.
The Minnesota Independent Film Fund is designed to support producers,
directors, or writers who have a feature film project they wish to
develop and produce. Essentially, MIFF is intended for mid-career
artists with some production experience; established filmmakers, if
their artistic development will be signicantly advanced by MIFF; and
artists who demonstrate signigicant promise as filmmakers. Two primary
criteria will distinguish awarded projects: artistic vision and
ability to complete production.
