Some earlier touchstones:
Nathaniel West's DAY OF THE LOCUSTS (filmed later by John Schlesinger)
THE FRONT PAGE/HIS GIRL FRIDAY (several versions)--and of course, the newspaper
film is a subgenre of its own--from DIAL NORTHSIDE 777 to THE PHILADELPHIA
STORY to, of course, CITIZEN KANE.
TOO HOT TO HANDLE, with Clark Gable, makes interesting use of documentary
in the opening sequence.
There are many "
Hollywood" films as well. You might want to check in with MOVIES-SEIVOM,
the self-referential movie discussion list. It now has a website, too.
