In Alexander Dovzhenko's 1927 _Zvenyhora_ (known as Zvenigora through
Russian transliteration) there are two segments which deal with Ukrainian
history: one is a dream and the other one a tale told by unreliable
narrator. The latter one has an original way of dealing with unreliable
narration in a purely cinematic fashion. The sequence consists of
superimposed images (more than three on some occasions) only one of which is
in focus. The result is quite amazing. Although the viewer gets confused
by the multiplicity of characters and events taking place at the same time
the story of Roksana emerges from it quite clear.
