I can think of some older films, such as "An American In Paris", or the one
with Jack Lemmon in which he leaves his life in the US to go off with the
woman he met in Paris (I think).  These films of course don't deal with the
obsession you are referring to, except indirectly (ie., in both romance is a
big part of the plot).
