In response to Dr. Jarvik, since many of the subscribers to this list are quite
concerned with issues of power and representaton (issues, in short, of access)
particularly within an educational context, I find the posting of the petition
re Proposition 187 "manifestly totally" acceptable. Power, representation, ac-
 cess, and education are obviously political issues, and responding to poli-
ical initiatives such as Propl 187 is, I feel, one way of confirming, not jeo-
pardising, credibility for film and television scholars. Having access to
things such as the 187 posting is one of the reasons I subscribe to Screen-L.
