Dear all,
IAMHIST is pleased to announce the first 'Challenge' event of 2021, organised by Veronica Johnson and to be hosted in-person at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) on Tuesday 5 October between 10am until 6pm (BST). Details (which can also be found here: IAMHIST Challenge Event: Researching Cinema in the First World War |<http://iamhist.net/2021/09/iamhist-challenge-event-researching-cinema-world-war/>) are as follows:
Led by experts on researching cinema in this challenging period of 1914-1918, the workshop will provide information on methods of research. The aim of this event is to provide practical guidance and support to doctoral students and early career researchers who are beginning their research in this area, as well as to provide a networking opportunity for presenters and attendees. The workshop will also include a visit to the NUIG archive to work with contemporary material and a film screening of Knocknagow (Fred O’Donovan, 1918), the first feature length film made by the Film Company of Ireland, made available thanks to the Irish Film Institute.
Students will have the opportunity to work with Leen Engelen (LUCA School of Arts/KU Leuven, President of IAMHIST) on Cinema and Spectacle, Denis Condon (Maynooth University) on newspaper archives, Kasandra O’Connell (Irish Film Institute) on film archives and Veronica Johnson (NUIG) on female film pioneers.
Places are limited at this free event due to COVID 19 restrictions so please book your place as soon as possible. There is a limited amount of travel bursaries available for students.
Please contact the event organiser Veronica Johnson at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> for bookings or any queries.
Best wishes,
Llewella
