Screen-L list members interested in the work of Jean-Luc Godard and/or the relationship between cinema and the gallery might like to know about two UK film premieres taking place at Tate Modern on Sunday 7th December: http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/film/godard-curator-le-desordre-expose
The films both relate to the exhibition "Voyage(s) en utopie, Jean-Luc Godard, 1946-2006" that Godard staged at the Pompidou Centre in 2006. They are:
(i) "Reportage Amateur (Maquette Expo)" / "Home Movie (Exhibition Maquette)" (Jean-Luc Godard and Anne-Marie Miéville, 2006, 46 min)
(ii) "Jean-Luc Godard, Le Désordre Exposé" / "Jean-Luc Godard, Disorder Exhibited" (Olivier Bohler and Céline Gailleurd, 2012, 65 min)
In the first film, which Anne-Marie Miéville and Jean-Luc Godard made during the run-up to the exhibition, Miéville films Godard as he takes the viewer on a guided tour of a model of his ambitious planned show. He ended up abandoning this version of the exhibition, however, which was known under the working title "Collage(s) de France", replacing it with a radically different one, "Voyage(s) en utopie".
The second film, which features the critic and filmmaker André S. Labarthe, offers a detailed reflection on "Voyage(s) en utopie" within the context of Godard's overall oeuvre.
The screenings will be followed by a discussion with the directors of "Jean-Luc Godard, Le Désordre Exposé", Olivier Bohler and Céline Gailleurd.
