My favorite non-linear narrative is Alain Resnais's 1968 Je T'aime, Je T'aime.
Claude Rich gets stuck in a time machine that malfunctions and spends the remainder of the film revisiting past moments in his life--some once, some over and over again; some short, some long--in a random collage that is breathtaking. It's true visual music, with melodies and harmonies--and especially rhythms. And it is also a typical Resnais puzzle: you have to figure the whens and the wheres of each sequence or shot yourself using the clues he gives you.
An editor's tour de force that will haunt you.
