Subject: RE: Oh! What a lovely war!

According to Leonard Maltin:

Oh! What a Lovely War
1969, British, color, 139 minutes
Director: Richard Attenborough
Stars: Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson,
Michael Redgrave, John Mills, Vanessa Redgrave, Dirk Bogarde,
Susannah York, Maggie Smith, Jack Hawkins, Kenneth More,
Corin Redgrave, Jane Seymour.
Actor Attenborough's directing debut; impressive but
cumbersome series of vignettes on WW1, ranging from
colorful musical numbers of poignant human sidelights.
Adapted from stage show. Beautifully designed, wildly
cinematic, but too drawn-out to make maximum antiwar impact.
