Things seems mighty quiet on SCREEN-L today and it strikes me that
it may be because academic folks are leaving for Spring Break(s) here in
North America.
(And considering that it's supposed to hit 85 degrees F. here in
Alabama today I'd say it's more like *Summer* Break.)
If you want to avoid returning to a big fat pile of SCREEN-L
messages clogging up your mail system, then either:
1. Signoff temporarily.
2. Stop mail being sent to you, but remain subscribed.
To do either of these things, send mail *NOT* to [log in to unmask], but
rather to [log in to unmask], the clerical robot that runs SCREEN-L.
Then, to signoff/unsubscribe, put this in the first line of your
message:
SIGNOFF SCREEN-L or, alternatively,
UNSUBSCRIBE SCREEN-L
To re-subscribe later, send mail to [log in to unmask], with the
following:
SUBSCRIBE SCREEN-L yourname
To temporarily halt mail delivery, send mail to [log in to unmask], with
the following:
SET SCREEN-L NOMAIL
When you want to start receiving again, send the following:
SET SCREEN-L MAIL
Personally, I think it's easier just to unsubscribe. Plus, you don't
wind up with subscriptions that are set to NOMAIL and you've
completely forgotten about them.
These techniques also work when you're leaving town for the summmer.
Just something to store away...

we are all brothers. The truth is more likely that
under the skin we are all cannibals, assassins,
traitors, liars and hypocrites.
