I am quite surprised no one has mentioned Jan Troell's The Immigrants
(Utvandrarna) and The New Land (Nybyggarna) not Hollywood
productions, but about the immigrant experience in the American
midwest.

On a less aesthetic note, no one's mentioned the Tom Cruise
immigration epic Far and Away, if you want real Hollywood.
