Was the question originally regarding misanthropic characters who weren't
necessarily "bad guys"? If so, I would suggest looking at two films that raise
misanthropy itself to an art--Man Bites Dog (originally Il arrive pres de chez
nous/vous--though I can't remember precisely) and Shallow Grave.
