Masterpiece Theatre is a commercial program fully paid for by a commercial
sponsor, Mobil Corporation, as is Mystery!
 
Interviewing former Mobil executive Herb Schmertz for my doctoral
dissertation was the beginning of the idea that PBS could be privatized
without any loss in program quality.
