Jon, we're into semantics here. Couldn't I say "what is subjectivity
but a degree of objectivity?"  If one could think of subjectivity and
objectivity as the two poles of a continuum, that would explain them, I
think. (Incidentially, John Hulteng, a University of Oregon journalism
prof, did just this in a sub-chapter entitled ""The Subjectivity Scale"
