Another post-apocalyptic film of possible interest is THE WORLD, THE
FLESH AND THE DEVIL, with Harry Belafonte, Inger Stevens and Mel Ferrer
as the apparent sole survivors of a nuclear war.

I also have the memory of a black-and-white SF film about a spaceship
crew that has landed on another planet (possibly Mars). They encounter
some kind of alien intelligence (which may have been manifested in a
glowing rock or fungus). One of the crew members was a black scientist,
who utters a line that"s something like "Don't touch that! It's evil!"
Needless to say, he is dispatched early on. Sorry I can't be more
specific.

Don Larsson

'the omega man' w. c. heston (remake of 'last man on earth') has an
african-american female lead (turns into a zombie). bill duke has a role
in 'predator' (contrast to romero characters??). and don't forget lt.
uhura!!!

in novels there's rbt. heinlein's 'farnham's freehold' sort of like
planet
of the apes except post-apocalypse the blacks rule and make payback
trouble for the white protagonist who emerges from his bomb shelter, w.
nuclear family in tow natch. outrageously racist, but thus fascinating
in
what it reveals... never made into a film afaik (and probably a good
thing...)
