Henry, I think you're thinking of SIGHT SOUND MOTION: APPLIED MEDIA
AESTHETICS (Belmont, CA: Wadsworth, 1990). Second edition is the
most recent (and was something like 8 years in the making).
Zettl's book is quite helpful and well-illustrated. My only problem
with it is that it's sometimes idiosyncratic in its terminology.
He describes some aesthetic phenomena in terms that are not widely
used elsewhere.
Still, it's admirable in its attempt to get beyond the day-to-day
aesthetics advocated in TV production texts.
Just one teacher's opinion...
P.S. A final caveat: the illustrations drive the price of the book
up. I haven't checked lately, but I wouldn't be surprised if it
retailed for $40-50.
