Public Service Broadcasting Beyond 2000:
Serving the Public in a Digital Age
Organized by Cultural Industries Research Centre University of Alberta
in conjunction with the Banff Television Festival
Co-organizer (new media stream): The Banff Centre for the Arts
Conference: June 10 and 11, 2000

Public service broadcasters around the world are faced with declining
budgets, audience fragmentation, debate over their proper role, all at a
time of rapid technological advance in distribution technology.
This conference will bring together academics from across Canada and

critical period of convergence and digitalization.
It will provide a means for communication of research findings to industry
and government leaders from around the world as well as a forum for
industry/government/ regulatory sector participants to actively engage the
research community in debate on the research findings and policy issues
identified.
