There'll be a live chat on electronic publishing and film/TV academic
organizations this coming Tuesday. Both SCS and UFVA are in the midst of
working out policies to cope with the new possibilities for electronic
distribution of their publications.
Some of the issues involved:
* Should paper publication of journals cease in favor of electronic
* Should electronic distribution be limited to items normally published in
newsletters (e.g., the UFVA's Digest)?
* How can we use online services to improve distribution of time-based
material like job announcements?
* Should back issues of the journal be put on the Web?
* Should organizational Web sites limit access to online newsletter/journal
material to their membership, or make them available to the public?
* In short, what is the optimum mix of paper and electronic distribution of
organizational materials?
