***WORKSHOP INFORMATION***
Moving Image Archives: Basic Training
Tuesday, October 19, 1993
11:00am - 3:45pm
(lunch break 12:30 - 2:00pm)
A major goal of the AMIA is the training of persons involved in the
preservation of moving image materials. Since the founding of AMIA's
predecessor organization, the Film and Television Archives Advisory
Committee, each annual meeting has had more attendees than the previous
one. Many of the people are new to the field. Of these newcomers, many
are not doing purely archival or preservation work but are doing related
work in operating film, videotape or stock shot libraries because of the
"video explosion." For this reason, AMIA has developed a workshop to
introduce these people to the field.
Three long time moving image archivists, Maxine Fleckner Ducey (Wisconsin
State Historical Society), Alan Lewis (National Archives) and Wendy Shay
(Smithsonian Institution) have organized a basic training workshop to
bring conference attendees "up to speed" on moving image archives matters.
The workshop will give film and video preservationists (i.e. managers,
archivists, librarians, museum specialists, audiovisual technicians, etc.)
basic information about the nature of the film and video media and their
care, the archival problems they pose, preservation strategies, storage
considerations, equipment needed, etc. Perhaps more importantly, the
session will give attendees an opportunity to meet others in the field
who are facing the same challenges and struggling with the same issues.
This is a no-fee workshop but will require pre-registration. It will
be held only if there is a sufficient number of attendees enrolled by
September 24, 1993. Please complete the form below and mail it to:
The National Center for Film and Video Preservation
P.O. Box 27999
2021 North Western Avenue
