I am posting the following message for a friend who is seeking proposals for
a panel at next year's MLA conference in San Diego. Please send any replies
directly to her:
REWRITING AND TEXTUAL DESIRE IN MEDIA FANZINES:
Seeking a variety of perspectives on fanzine fiction that is based on media
sources such as Star Trek, Sherlock Holmes, Blake's 7, Quantum Leap, and
others, written in genres that include mary-sue, hurt/comfort, and slash.
Inviting theoretically sophisticated studies that either build from the work
that Joanna Russ, Constance Penley, and Henry Jenkins have begun in this area,
or that use wildly different ways of analyzing this subcultural literature
produced largely by women. Inquiries welcome; proposals by March 1.
