Contemporary cartoons make references to Hollywood by including its icons
within the diagesis. A recent episode of the Simpsons had Bob Hope as a guest
star. Another episode had Lisa and Bart make their own cartoon as they were
unhappy with the "appeal" of what adults were producing (they came up with
something that had more blood and guts). Lots of jokes about the workings of
the industry and how unsolicited scripts are treated. Worthy of further
study.
