Having just watched Jane Campion's The Piano (1993) on the idiot tube last
night, it's worth noting the opposition between red/orange (the first shot
of the film through Ada's hands colours her interior world as red) and the
blue/green of the exterior world. It's also worth saying that where Sam
Neill's character (the name's gone...) chops off Ada's (Holly Hunters)
finger, the film repeats the village play where the monstrous pirate
attempts to chop off his wife's head. The pirate is, of course, Bluebeard...
