In contrast with the fetishistic fascination of movies such as PULP
FRICTION there has been little (read: none) response to a recent
posting regarding budget cuts at the NEA. These cuts are symptomatic
of an ongoing assault on the NEA by various well known personalities
in Congress and other houses of ill-repute. It seems reasonable
that some type of response <even a simple letter> is called for
considering the meager resources available to independent filmmakers.
What is interesting NEA funds have been an important <though limited>
enabler for many now well established independents. Without this
source of seed money the scales of representation are skewed toward
the whims of fewer and feewer companies. Now that the likes of Jesse
Helms and Strom Thurmond have even more power in the Senate it might
be worthwhile to do something. Allan SAIC
