Copolla's The Conversation is designed on a red and blue opposition
from the first scene's singing of Red, Red Robin. Blue seems associated
with Harry's depression and red with danger. He switches the money from
a blue to a red briefcase when he realizes this is blood money he earned.
At the moment of greatest anxiety we see blood ooze out from a toilet bowl
and suffuse the screen. The Jack Tar hotel was probably chosen for the
trysting place because it has red and blue panels on its balconies. The
blue fluorescent bulb between him and Meredith in his loft, however, seems
to be a direct citation from the blue bulb in the loft in Blow-Up.
Et cetera which include furniture colors and phones. liz weis cuny
