I thought that the kiss in North by Northwest was supposed to be the
longest kiss on the screen. Whatever the case, it's clear that Hitch had a
special fascination for the kiss.

More importantly, the kiss in On the Waterfront underlines the (now-sexist)
mythology of the kiss in the fifties; Brando kisses a reluctant Eva Marie
and after first resisting, she realizes she likes it and gives in to his
forceful advances.
