We are still accepting proposals for this CFP over the next 10 days. If you
have any ideas, or can send this on to friends who may want to contribute,
please do so. Thank you.

CALL FOR PAPERS

We are seeking essays for an anthology to be entitled
Youth/Culture/Shock: Adolescents in International Cinema, to be published by
a major academic press in the field. As "youth" and "adolescence" can be
vague and contested terms, we recommend analyses of films about characters
between the ages of 12 and 20. We intend to be pluralistic in approach and
nationality, working from a variety of critical methods and examining a
diverse range of cinemas over time. To give an example of our scope, we
would welcome essays on such films as The 400 Blows (France, 1959) and Mon
Oncle Antoine (Canada, 1971) to more recent entries like My Sassy Girl
(South Korea, 2001) and City of God (Brazil, 2002). We need abstracts
(50-100 words) and proposals (no more than 1,000 words) by December 20,
2003. Proposals should mention the films to be examined and include a
tentative bibliography. For accepted proposals, we will need completed
articles by June 1, 2004.
For more information or to submit a proposal, please contact Timothy
Shary (author of Generation Multiplex: The Image of Youth in American
Cinema, 2002) by email at [log in to unmask], or Alexandra Seibel (NYU film
studies) by email at [log in to unmask]
