Another misanthrope, who is redeemed only by accident (in a happied-up ending)
is the main character (played by Dickie Attenborough before he became old
and cuddly), in the Boulting Bros. adaptation of Graham Greene's BRIGHTON
BEACH.

Speaking of Greene, has anyone mentioned Harry Lime in THE THIRD MAN? More
nihilistic than misanthropic, but it might fit.
