While we're discussing inferior DVD presentations, I thought I'd bring up my Amazon list of DVDs where the film isn't even presented ACCEPTABLY.

This includes pan and scan discs (not counting "full screen editions" of films that have widescreen editions), improperly matted discs, and discs that squeeze if you don't have a 16x9 TV. If anyone knows of any more, I'll cetrainly add them. I was supremely disappointed to find a Godard film released like this. I returned it without watching it. I'm glad it was from the library and not a rental. Some companies hire people who can't competently author discs, which is even worse than catering to the lowest common denominator who thinks letterboxing is cropping.
