Interesting intertextual connection here. Visconti's first film,
*Ossessione* (1942) is an adaptation of Cain's novel.
For a brief account of *Lo Straniero,* see Donald Dewey's *Marcello
Mastroianni: His Life and Art* (1993). Pages: 175-179.
