In SHINE we never meet David Helfgott's grandfather. All we do is see his
picture on the wall and hear the story of his cruel smashing of the violin.
But this father/grandfather's presence is felt throughout the film. He is one
of the tormenters (the other is the Holocaust) from whom David's father,
Peter, is fleeing.
