Call for Papers

                 Japanese Women Filmmakers

The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, University of
Colorado at Boulder solicits proposals for presentations for an
International Colloquium on Japanese Women Filmmakers to be held at the
University of Colorado and at Colorado College, October 5-7 (Thursday
through Saturday), 2000.
Proposals for individual papers, poster sessions or organized panels in
all disciplines and areas of Japanese studies are invited.
Graduate student participation is encouraged, and funds may be available
in support of attendance.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
Classics (Sakane Tazuko, Tanaka Kinuyo, Hidari Sachiko); Documentaries by
women and on womens issues; Animation by women or concerning womens
issues; Extreme contemporaneous feature films by women directors; Films by
or on Japanese-American women; Makers But Not Directors such as actresses,
costume designers, producers, and others; Pink films by women; Videos;
Shorts; Experimental films by  women; Melodrama; TV Docudramas;
Advertising; and so forth.
Please send a one-page abstract of the proposed project to:
