                   CALL FOR CONFERENCE PAPERS
 
 
                   MAINSTREAM(S) AND MARGINS:
                 CULTURAL POLITICS IN THE 90'S
 
 
 
The Center for the Study of Communication of the University of
Massachusetts at Amherst is organizing a conference on
"Mainstream(s) and Margins" to be held on APRIL 3, 1992.  The
purpose of the conference is to link academic case studies and
center-margin theoretical debates from a variety of disciplinary
perspectives.
 
Research and session topics will include (but are not limited to):
 
                   * Post-Colonial Theories
                   * Marginalization in the global context
                   * Critical Ethnographies
                   * Nationalism/New Social Movements
                   * Feminist Studies
                   * Pedagogy
                   * North-South/East-West controversies
                   * Methodological issues related to the study
                     of marginalization
                   * New Technologies
                   * Cinema Studies
                   * Cultural Industries
 
 
The deadline for submission of abstracts (150-300 words) is
DECEMBER 1, 1991.  Final papers for selected participants will be
due in February 1992.  Along with the abstract, please indicate
your institutional affiliation and status (e.g., faculty or
graduate student) and whether you will require audio-visual
equipment for your presentation.
 
The day-long conference will be organized as a series of seminars
involving scholars, students and researchers from a variety of
social disciplines.  An edited volume of selected research papers
demonstrating the interdisciplinary possibilities of the center-
margin discourse is planned.
