WESTERN WEATHER; TORNADOES, BLIZZARDS,
DROUGHTS IN POPULAR CULTURE

Papers wanted on western weather. Everybody talks about it, now it's time
to give it some scholarly attention. How weather affects/is part of
western/southwestern culture, art, collective behavior, etc. This part of
the US is weather central for stormchasers and others who are "seriously
into weather." Any intersections of the weather and culture can be
explored.

Likely topics:

Storm chasing in fact and fiction
Weather in film--movies such as "Twister"
Imagery in Western Music....
Science Fiction--Sterlin's "Heavy Weather" and other
Media coverage of tornadoes, blizzards, etc.
Historic weather events: from the Galveston hurricane
       to the Del City tornado
Recent documentaries, PBS, TLC, Discovery Channel, etc. on western
          weather.
The Dust Bowl and Dust Bowl Novels/Films
Regional weather phenomena: blue northers, etc.
Weather forecasting and forecasters
Western weather in art--paintings, photos, weather photographers
Weather and economy--ranching, farming, etc.
Wildfires
"Wind" in novels and films
Desert life and art.

Papers treating any aspect of the topic are welcome.
