It grieves me to defend Blockbuster <ptui>, but in the interest of
fairness I must report that last night I witnessed the NC-17 "director's
cut" of MAN BITES DOG on the shelf at my local Blockbuster. That is,
if we are to believe the box, it *was* the uncut version.
Also, although Blockbuster originally made a bid deal about not carrying
LAST TEMPTATION, they seem to have quietly, hypocritcally started carrying
it. I personally rented the film from a Blockbuster here in town.
Now, the fact that Tuscaloosa Blockbusters carry these films may be
an indication of the difference between *franchise* Blockbusters and
those actually owned by the parent corporation. I can't really say.
(I was talking to a student of mine last night who works at our
Blockbuster and he was explaining some of the differences, but he
didn't mention the NC-17 controversy.)
