Hi, guys,

I'm trying to discover the title of either a film I saw or book I read
where the heroine leaves her family (at a funeral, I think), and goes to
Haight-Ashbury during the Summer Of Love.  She later enrolls at
Berkeley.  The book or film ends with a triumphant return to her family.

I thought it was a book, but no bookseller I have contacted nor any
other means of discovering the title has produced results.  Today a
bookseller wrote that she thinks it was a movie and seems to recall a
slim brunette playing the lead.

Any clue, anyone?
