Department of Broadcasting, Telecommunications, and Mass Media
 
The Department of Broadcasting, Telecommunications, and Mass Media
seeks two faculty members. The first tenure-track position is to
teach broadcast and multi-media production at the undergraduate and
graduate levels. Other teaching assignments will vary depending on
the background and skills of the selected applicant. Applicants
should possess an advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred), substantial
professional experience in either major-market television or
independent production, and familiarity with: entertainment,
documentary, and corporate or public programming. Knowledge of
production management, computers, current industry developments, and
new technology (particularly digital entertainment) is desirable.
 
The second tenure-track position requires expertise in the social and
educational uses and applications of multi-media. This candidate
should have publications and teaching experience in one or more of
the following areas: research methodology and media
analysis/criticism. A history of funded research will be considered a
distinct advantage. The candidate must have a completed Ph.D.,
teaching experience, and scholarly publications and goals appropriate
to mentoring doctoral students.

Temple University is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, minutes
from the center of the fourth largest media and telecommunications
market in the nation. The Temple University campuses include the main
campus in North Philadelphia, Temple University Center City, Temple
University Ambler, the Health Sciences Center, and Tyler School of
Art. The Department of Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Mass
Media, in the School of Communications and Theater, is a new
department which grew out of a program in Radio-Television-Film. The
department has approximately 550 undergraduate majors and 50 M.A.
 students. Department faculty also contribute to the
interdepartmental doctoral program in Mass Media and Communication.
 
The University community at large includes more than 30,000 students
in the region and international campuses in Tokyo, Japan; Rome,
Italy; and London, England. The Delaware Valley region boasts many
major telecommunications and media outlets including a major cable
sports network, NFL Films, and many independent film and video
production and post production houses, radio and television stations,
casting agencies, and advertising and public relations agencies.
 Convenient access to New York and Washington, D. C.  provides many
opportunities for student internships at telecommunications
organizations and associated outlets.
 
Philadelphia is a city rich in history and steeped in culture. The
birthplace of the nation, it is consistently listed among the
country's most livable cities.
