There are tickets for sale to Academy members.  If you know one, or know
someone who knows one (etc., ad infinitum) you can get them.  Also, there is
a company that provides "seat fillers," i.e.,  people to sit when the actual
seat holder either needs a drink or is called to eliminate the last.  This so
the cameras never catch an empty, seat that is.
