saw a brief interview on him on Italian television when it was announced that

effects of a stroke).  His wife spoke for him.
 I hope he will continue making films long after the Academy's tribute."
 
Perhaps he'll pull a Welles--phone in a thankyou supposedly from overseas
while in a hotel not far away.
 
The best tribute would be to play the ending of ZABRISKIE POINT over and
over again until the Academy gets the idea and blows up.
