i am interested in learning more about production and reception theories,
could someone recommend the appropriate literature? i would particularly
be interested to find out if there are such things as marxist,
structuralist, semiotic, postmodern takes on production/reception theory.
and not to sound too naive: but is it necessary to discuss both
production and reception theories together? if so, why? if not, why not?

my interest within film studies is german postwar (WWII) film, so if you
could relate production/reception theories in this context i would be
appreciative--and might even be able to understand it!

thanks for your help,
