One film that I've always admired in part because the ending follows through
on a couple's determination to take a little joy for themselves after being
taken for patsies by boorish and selfish spouses is "Cousin, Cousine." At
the end, after spending some quality time in the bedroom during the big
extended-family Christmas Even party, they emerge and ride off on Ludovic's
motorcycle. Both he and Marthe say their goodbyes out in the yard, but it is
a fine exit, one worthy of the film's theme and tone. Dan.
