I appreciate Dr. Carroll's explanantion of incomprehensibility. I
accept her argument about the amusing shallowness of The Usual Suspects;
and of course who the heck cares about The Sixth Sense?
    But Fight Club, this fan protests, offers rewards for rethinking the
story in light of its final relevations. Fight Club has enough serious
ideas about male heterosexuality and its schizophrenic tendencies that
repeat viewings elaborate rather than undercut them. There's a nice
article in the new Critical Studies in Media Communication, though it
doesn't discuss the trickery in detail.
best,
N
